Simple, sustainable and durable, the active ingredient in Protect 90™ is one of the most effective and universally recognized antimicrobials used in surface protection. Backed by more than 40 years of testing, it has a history of safe use and is a durable and effective way to control a wide range of microbes on a treated surface, including gram-negative and positive bacteria, fungi, algae, mold, mildew and odour.
The active ingredient in Protect 90™ has been applied to high traffic surfaces in a wide array of environments to provide an additional level of antimicrobial surface protection. This permanent nanoscopic shield will remain full strength 24/7 to protect the surface itself. Suggested applications include but are not limited to upholstery, doorknobs, shared technology, elevators, handrails, and other high-touch surfaces subject to heavy use and wear and tear.
This surface protection technology is used by public transportation agencies like Metrolinx, to inhibit the growth of odor and stain-causing bacteria on their buses and trains.
The active ingredient in the product forms a colourless, odourless, positively charged polymer that molecularly bonds to the treated surface. You could think of it as a layer of electrically charged swords. When a microorganism comes in contact with the treated surface, the C-18 molecular sword punctures the cell membrane and the electrical charge shocks the cell. Since nothing is transferred to the now dead cell, the antimicrobial doesn’t lose strength and the sword is ready for the next cell to contact it.
Protect 90™ protects surfaces effectively against a broad spectrum of microorganisms including bacteria, mold and mildew. It is not designed to protect users or others from disease-causing microorganisms and should not replace normal cleaning practices.
The active ingredients in Protect 90™ are registered with Health Canada, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in the United States, and with the Biocidal Products Registration (BPR) in Europe for their specific use in the application in which they are used. The technologies have a long history of safe use in consumer, commercial, and healthcare product applications around the world. Risk assessments by independent scientists, scientific bodies and governmental agencies (including EPA, FDA and regulatory authorities in Europe and Canada) have consistently reconfirmed the safety of our antimicrobial surface protection additives at the levels approved for use in consumer, commercial and healthcare products. The size and specific biological systems of microorganisms make them susceptible to antimicrobial agents at levels of exposure that are not harmful to humans.
The surface protection technology can be spray applied or by using the “wet and wipe” method. You can use a variety of equipment to apply the liquid technology uniformly on a surface. Below are some of the most common types of equipment:
- Electrostatic sprayers
- Hand sprayers
- Garden sprayers
- Wetting surfaces and wiping
Longevity will vary depending on whether the treated surface is highly used or not. For example, heavy foot traffic on a concrete or tile floor could remove the antimicrobial treated surface. For most applications we tend to recommend reapplication ever 90 days or so. Please contact your Protect 90™ representative or distributor for specific recommendations.
